With less than four days to the historic Presidential Elections in Nigeria, the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, has vowed to recover the $16 billion, allegedly wasted on the power sector, when former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, was in power.
Speaking at the APC, Presidential rally, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Tuesday, Buhari vowed to go after the people who mismanaged the money, meant for the development of the power sector.
Recall, that in 2018, Buhari had said that Obasanjo had questions to answer, over the power expenditure, from 1999 to 2007.
In 2008, the House of Representatives had described the $16 billion spent on power by Obasanjo’s government, as a colossal waste.
While, the railway was virtually killed, we are rebuilding it; and there was no power, we are bringing power back”, Buhari said at the rally.
“The previous government mentioned on their own, that they spent 16 billion American dollars for power. But you are better witnesses than myself. Where is the power? Where is the money? We will follow them, and eventually, God willing, we will get them and we will get our money back.
“We are also promising that we will make people who occupy Executive positions, both in Federal and State levels, to be accountable to the people. If you could recall, when I came in 2015, under our great party, the party articulated three issues, which we campaigned and were voted on. These are security, economy, and fighting corruption.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari, Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the party, and other Leaders, at a rally in Ogun State, was sponsored by Ibikunle Amosun, the Governor of the State.
Recall, that aggrieved persons had thrown objects at the President, after he raised the hand of Dapo Abiodun, the APC Governorship Candidate in the State, at the party’s Campaign rally.
Reacting, in a statement on Tuesday, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC Spokesman, said that the party “will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning thugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party’s Leadership.”
Issa-Onilu disclosed that any plan to destroy what the party stands for, would be rejected.
“The APC regrets Monday’s premeditated attacks sponsored by Governor Ibikunle Amosun, on President Muhammadu Buhari, and other senior party Leaders. at the venue of the Presidential Campaign rally, in Ogun State.
“This is one act of indiscipline too many. The APC will not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion, and anti-party activities from any party member, no matter how highly placed.
“The party will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning thugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party’s leadership. No single person will be allowed to put his personal and selfish interests, ahead of the wishes of the people of Ogun State and elsewhere.
“Post primaries, the decision of the National Working Committee to uphold the wishes of party members, is unbendable. Therefore, whatever means being presently deployed by persons intending to undermine the wishes of the people for personal gains, will not be tolerated.”
The APC Spokesman, revealed further that party members should not to be disturbed by Monday’s “condemnable.
