APC’s governorship candidate in Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak had to be escorted away from a rally in Ilorin on Sunday after suspected political thugs fired bullets into the crowd leaving at least two persons seriously injured while vehicles damaged as thousands fled the scene.
Supporters of the senate president, Bukola Saraki has been fingered to be behind the attack.
The Nigerian Police Force confirmed the attack in a statement by spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, affirming that the thugs went on the rampage in Ilorin, Kwara and disrupted a rally being held by the All Progressives Congress.
“As we speak, the situation report from Kwara State Police Command was that the APC holding a Governorship campaign rally at Agbaji in Ilorin came under a sudden attack by suspected PDP thugs, who disrupted the rally, damaged five vehicles and some Keke Napep and wounded two innocent people”, police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said.
According to The Nation, there was also another attack on APC supporters in Ile Aiyelabegan, a short distance from the Agbaji homestead of the Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Meanwhile, There’s a fresh report of the family residence of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, in the Agbaji area of Ilorin been attacked by hoodlums leaving 11 people injured. The Punch reports that the attack took place on Sunday, January 13, as the hoodlums damaged 50 vehicles. It was also reported that Solagberu and Aliagan mosques were damaged as a result of the attack.
Alhaji Olanrewaju Yusuf who is the president of Agbaji Development Association claimed the armed thugs shot into the air when they arrived. He said a seven-year-old boy died as a result of the attack which he claimed was carried out by members of an opposition party.
Yusuf said: “We learnt that a boy in Ode Alausa, just opposite this house (Saraki’s homestead), who was hit by a bullet has died. His name is Abubakare. “The thugs came around 11.30am and shot into the air. In fact, they were provided cover by the police. At least 11 people sustained injuries from bullets, while about 50 cars including that of Imam Aliagan were destroyed. The thugs also stole four motorcycles, money and jewelry from shops deserted by their owners”. The director general of the Peoples Democratic Party campaign council in the state, Professor Suleiman Abubakar, claimed the violence was perpetrated by the All Progressives Congress leaders so as to instill fears in residents ahead of the elections.
