In a bizarre twist to the recent riot caused by students of higher institution in the state on Thursday, 10th January 2019, the Special Assistant to the state governor Mr Aniekeme Finbar had released a statement insinuating that the student body was organized to blackmail the state government.
The students who earlier in the day, poured out en mass for a solidarity walk for the state governor’s second term aspiration were disappointed to learn that the mobilization money dolled out to them (31 million) was allegedly confiscated by another Special Assistant to the governor on student matters – Miss Aquilla. This led to the bloody revolt which further cumulated to riots in the Uyo metropolis.
On learning about the situation, the NANS President, Danielson Akpan issued a statement in Abuja on Saturday which he advised the Gov. Udom Emmanuel to stop insulting the senses of Akwa Ibom students.
The student body alleged that the governor had in the last two months attempted to procure students endorsement with N100 million through this same Special Adviser on Students Matters, Ms Aquila Otobong.
However, this did not go down well with the state executive and the PDP who hurriedly issued a statement blaming the opposition for instigating the students to cause the riots in the state.
The story however took another twist when the SA to the state governor Mr Aniekeme Finbarr released a screen shot of a whatsapp message purported to come from the APC camp insinuating the NANS leader was bribed to write the statement.
In a counter attack, the APC Family has released the original whatsapp message from Gov Udom Emmanuel’s campaign group where the alleged blackmail was hatched and perfected. In this chat, the State PDP publicity secretary, Ini Ememobong is seen to initiate this conspiracy to create a chat where the “APC leaders” laments non payment to the NANS leader.
The NANS leader has issued another statement threatening to sue the State PDP for defamation of character.
The past months has been tumultuous in Akwa Ibom political landscape and we watch as things unfold.
