A photo journalist with Ijoba Ibile TV was hit by a stray bullet on his hand while covering the flag-off campaign of Mr. Sanwo-olu plans for Lagos state in the 2019 gubernatorial election at Bishop Vinning Centre, Ikeja, in the cause of discharging his official duty.
Among those that were hit by the bullet were the group political editor of Nation newspaper, Emmanuel Oladesu, News Telegraph correspondent, Temitope Ogunbanke and Ibile Television cameraman, Abiodun Yusuf.
Trouble began at about 1:10 pm when Mr. Ambode was giving his keynote address, the miscreants in attendance began to engage in a free for all, disrupting the palpable political activities of the day.
However, the police who were on ground for security reason engaged and contained the touts who brandished all for of dangerous weapons.
Upon the crisis, Mr. Abiodun Yusuff was hit by a bullet and has since been rushed to a general hospital.
Mr.Abiodun Yusuff is recuperating at the general hospital, Ikeja.
Meanwhile, strongman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo landed in hospital yesterday after he was allegedly stabbed by members of a rival gang at the flag-off of the party’s gubernatorial candidate’s campaign in Ikeja.
It was learnt that two journalists also sustained gunshot wounds as guns, machete and other dangerous weapons were freely wielded when the rival gang invaded the Skypower Ground venue of the rally in Ikeja and send party stalwarts running for cover.
The police later brought the situation under control as they engaged the hoodlums in a shootout.
Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, who was making a speech at the time had to leave the stage abruptly. He was guarded out of the venue with his deputy, Alhaja Idiat Adebule, the APC governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other prominent members of the party.
