5 players to look out for at the AFCON 2017 (Photos)

With the 2017 Africa Cup of Nation set to kick off in Gabon from January 14 to February 5, 2017, LIB brings you the top 5 football stars to watch out for:
1.    Riyad Mahrez, Algeria (Leicester City, England)
He is currently the Africa’s best player. The Algerian played a greater part in securing his club first league title last season, scored 17 league goals and was voted  BBC player of the year.
He was also awarded ‘Player of the Year’ by the Professional Footballers Association, making him the first African to win the award.
2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gabon (Borussia Dortmund, Germany)
He was the 2015 African player of the year but failed to retain it by coming as the runner-up in 2016. All eyes will be on the top shot striker who scored 25 goals for his club side last season.
3.  Saido Mane, Senegal (Liverpool FC, England)
He is currently the third African best player. The Senegalese soccer star became the most expensive African player in history when he joined Liverpool in a £34M deal.
4. Eric Bailly, Ivory Coast (Manchester United, England)
After joining Manchester United for a reported fee of £30 million, the top defender has been an outstanding star on the football pitch.
He is a key man to watch and will be guiding the defense line for the defending champions Ivory Coast during the tournament.
5.  Andre Ayew, Ghana (West Ham (England)
Despite a bit of injury frustration playing for his Premier league team, the Ghanaian is another top striker to look out for.
He was the top scorer at the 2015 AFCON, and will sure be playing a key part for Ghana who have not won the continental trophy since 1982

Here Is The Reason Cristiano Ronaldo May Dump Real Madrid This Summer

Reports coming from Portugal indicate that four times World Footballer of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo, is set to dump Real Madrid.

Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola has this morning claimed the Real Madrid striker is angry at his treatment by Spanish tax authorities and has expressed his wish to leave the country.

Ronaldo denies the accusation and A Bola say the 32-year-old striker has made the “irreversible” decision to leave the club, and has informed his teammates of his intentions.

Spanish prosecutors have accused the Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo of defrauding the authorities of 14.7 million euros in tax, an accusation Ronaldo is contesting.

He responded to the tax charges by posting a picture of himself ‘shushing’ at the camera along with the caption “Sometimes the best answer it’s to be quiet”.

“It is clear that the football player did not try to evade taxes,” Ronaldo’s Gestifute management company said.

France Striker, Anthoine Greizmann Secretly Ties The Knot With Longtime Girlfriend

France striker Antoine Griezmann tied the knot with his long-term partner Erika Choperena in a secret ceremony at a beauty spot in Toledo, Spanish media revealed on Friday.

The 26-year-old, who last week extended his Atletico Madrid contract until 2022, met Choperena in San Sebastian when she was studying and he played at Real Sociedad.

The pair, who have a one-year-old daughter, were married Thursday afternoon at the Palacio de Galiana, a celebrated 11th-century edifice in the old Spanish capital.

Several of Griezmann’s Atletico teammates attended the ceremony including Juanfran, Koke and fellow Frenchman Kevin Gameiro.

In a short video on Griezmann’s Instagram account the player is also seen popping a champagne cork at a celebration around a pool.

“The celebration of this wedding took the media by surprise,” said Spanish daily El Mundo.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi is also due to get married later this month, with the Argentine international to wed Antonella Roccuzzo in his hometown of Rosario on June 30.

Osaze Odemwingie Is Pleased With His Third Career Hat-trick In Club’s Big Win

Osaze Odemwingie, Former Nigeria international  is thrilled to score his third career hat-trick after he netted a treble in Madura United’s 6-0 bashing of Semen Padong.

“Great team performance today @MaduraUnitedFC !! 3 points took us to the top of Liga1 🇮🇩. Pleased with my 3rd career hat trick ⚽️⚽️⚽️🙏🏽,” Odemwingie tweeted.

He has now scored nine goals in 10 games and Madura United top the Indonesia league table with 22 points in 11 games.

Osaze’s compatriot Junior Nwokolo scored a brace in the game.

The former West Bromwich Albion forward opened the scoring in the 20th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead, he made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute to end the first half 3-0.

He made it 4-0 in the 63rd minute.

Odemwingie grew up in Russia and Nigeria and began his career with Bendel Insurance in the Nigeria Premier League. He then earned a move to European football with Belgian side La Louvière where he spent three seasons before moving to French side Lille. Odemwingie scored 26 goals for Lille which prompted Lokomotiv Moscow to pay a fee of £10 million for his services in July 2007.
