A school teacher has allegedly beaten a 14-year-old boy, David Ndung’u to death over a minor incident.
According to The Kenyans, the student who was to sit for his final exams in November was allegedly beaten to death by the teacher after he failed to reach the target score set in Social Studies.
The incident took place at the Subukia Primary School in Nakuru County in Kenya. Eyewitnesses said he pounced on the young boy with blows and punches after he failed to reach the pass mark set for the class. The teacher further scolded him for pulling the whole class behind with his weak performance.
The mother of the slain boy, Elizabeth Nyokabi, said her son went home on that particular day complaining of how he was beaten by the teacher.
“My son said he was feeling sick when he came back home that day. He later told me a teacher had beaten him severely for failing to score the minimum marks he had set for the class. He said the teacher caned him everywhere, including on the head. He said he was considering not doing the KCPE exams because the teacher had given up on him and he was also tired of the beatings,” Nyokabi disclosed as quoted by the Standard.
The distressed mother further divulged that she took her son to Subukia hospital since the painkillers she gave him could not relieve the pain. The deceased was later treated and discharged but the condition worsened on Friday before he was admitted to another hospital in Nyahururu.
Unfortunately, the mother was called around 9pm to the hospital and informed of her son’s demise. The boy’s father, John Waweru has demanded justice as he wants the teacher to be punished.
Students and parents from the school took to the streets on Monday to demand that the teacher be punished and corporal punishment abolished completely from the school. They also wanted the teacher to be arrested for the heinous act.
Ministry of Education, culture, youths and gender officials who confirmed the story said action will be taken against the guilty teacher.

“We are aware of the incident and we have dispatched officials from the County to investigate the matter,” an official stated.
