Jamie Vardy reveals why he rejected Arsenal

Jamie Vardy has revealed why he rejected Arsenal in favour of remaining with champions Leicester.

The Gunners triggered the England star’s release clause and Vardy even began looking at schools in the capital for his children.

But the England striker, in an exclusive extract of his autobiography in The Sun,claims he weighed up the tactical fit before opting to remain at the King Power Stadium.

“With people like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil creating chances, Arsenal felt they could benefit me as much as I could them,” Vardy admitted. “But I also thought about the tactical aspect.

“You look at Arsenal’s style of play and they don’t get the ball forward quickly in the same way Leicester do for those runs I like to make in behind the defence.

“We even looked at new schools for the children, but I got to the stage where I felt with my heart and head that I wanted to stay in Leicester.”

Vardy’s rise continued as he helped Leicester to a second successive victory in the Champions League, triumphing 1-0 over Porto on Tuesday night.

The former Fleetwood Town striker was given a standing ovation as he departed the pitch in stoppage time.
